Site Information - Top

Who Can Play on this Site and Should I be a Premie?

You must register and be a member here - at the very least!
Non Premium members can play up to 3 games concurrently.
Only Premium Members can participate in any tournaments, or create their own mini-tournaments.
Premium members can play many games and tournaments concurrently!

How do I become a Premie (Premium Member)?

You can become a full member of this site by clicking on the "Donate" Button on the left side of the page and follow the instructions to "Donate".

How do I navigate around the Club?

Use the "Chess Club" navigation pane in the block on the left side of any page.

What Happens if a Player is Caught Cheating here?

If a player is caught using an Engine in an NC Game or Tournament, there will be very dire consequences - reducing his ELO rating to close to zero at the very least!

What happens if my opponent's time expires?

The "Claim Win" button becomes enabled for you. You must click this button to claim the win, else the game continues until you do.

Games - Top

What kind of games can I play?

You can play un-timed games, timed by game and timed by move. Ratings groups are Engines Allowed, No Engines Allowed and Friendly.

What are ratings groups?

ELO ratings are used throughout the club. Members get two ratings - NC (no chess engine assistance) and CA (chess engines allowed.) Friendly games do not affect ELO ratings.

How Can I See My Games?

You can see your games by going to your Profile page.
There, by clicking on any current game, you will go to the chess playing page with all current games.
Clicking on Completed Games will take to the the page to view your games.

Can I play against an Engine?

Yes! By going to your profile, you can challenge an Engine to a timed game, e.g., Blitz (5min.).
We've purposely added 5 seconds to the engine's response (not to Humans or other kinds of chess freaks) to give all a chance against an Engine in Blitz (maybe!).

When Does the Clock Start for a New Game.

To be fair, we have started the clock after the Black player makes his first move. Otherwise, in a short timed game, the second player might not be in the game at the first move and lose before he gets there!

How do I challenge someone?

Click on Find Players in the "Chess Club" Navigation Block on left side of any page and then go to the appropriate player's profile page. There, you will see "Challenge This Player" on right side of his profile.
Pick the kind of game you want to play against that player. Then click the "Challenge Button".
A pm will be sent to that player. He can accept or decline. You then get notified.

Alternatively, once inside the Chess Club, you can click on a user that is in the "User's Online" BLock to the right of the page.

Why is my seeing a move taking too Long?

Most probably the cause is that you are uploading or downloading way too much to play a timed game simultaneously with your torrents or other shares. If you want to play fast timed games, then stop all other apps that use up your bandwidth during the game.

Another possibility is that the server is getting swamped with requests.

How can I tell when it is my turn to move in my games?

Navigate to your "Player Profile" in the Chess Club. The games with a "Green" bulb next to them are the ones where it is your turn to move.

Tournaments - Top

What kind of Tournaments are there?

You must be a Premium Member to participate in any Tournament!

There are "Round Robin" and "KnockOut" Tournaments.

There are NC (No Computer Assistance) and CA (allowed Computer (Engine) Assistance) Tournaments.

There are Site Wide Tournaments and Player defined "mini-tournaments.

When a Tournament fills up, the Tournament begins!. You have a chance to Quit a Tournament before it fills up. After that, you are in!

What is a Round Robin?

In a Round Robin, each player plays every other player 2 games: one as white, and the other as black.

What is a KO (Knockout) Tournament?

An even number of players are paired in each round. Only winners migrate to next round. Last Player Standing is the Winner!

Are there Going to be Prizes for a Winner of the Site Wide KO Tournament?

You Bet! There will be a prize (and a very nice one) to the Winner!
